Dear Helen,

What a pity you decided to move out from this project. I think it was fantastic idea and concept.

I am currently living in Italy/Milan and going to start same business model in there, rooted in the crowd-funding and network support of young fashion designers. I understand that the model wasn’t feasible because it took too many resources to promote the sale of new designers goods. Can you tell me what the real difficulties were?

I’m curious to undestand what difficulties you encountered when trying to scale your company and why crowd didn't work?

Also very intersting question by MEG who managed the production of the garments? was it done by the designers themselves? and if so, how did you deal with designers not delivering an end product?

Your advise would help me very much!

Greetings Helen,

As others have mentioned, you've done a great thing by reflecting on the downfalls. I'm sure this will help you gain more traction in the next pursuit.

I am currently working on a similar business model in NYC, more rooted in the crowd-funding aspect and network support of fashion designers. I understand that the model wasn't feasible because it took too many resources to promote the sale of new designers goods. What about the technical aspect, were you experiencing issues in scale in iterating your site to accommodate rapid changes? Do you think some of the hardships could have been resolved if you had a full time CTO (of sorts)?

I would love to be in touch during my concept development phase. I think that catwalk genius was a great concept. I wish you much success in the new endeavors.

Best,
Jenny

Hi Helen,
I've only just found out about your company and sad to hear it's no longer going. I'm from a background of fashion publishing and now working on a project that is actually quite similar to what you were doing so am interested to find out what advice you may have.

I'm wondering if you had direct contact and support from outfits like fashion east, vauxhall scout or CFE?

Also who managed the production of the garments? was it done by the designers themselves? and if so, how did you deal with designers not delivering an end product?

Thanks

hi helen, love the concept and encouraging to hear that it was worth pursuing start-up life for it. would be very curious to hear about what mandated pivoting away from crowdfunding and its difficulties. also questions about realistic budget numbers, if you can disclose at all. looking forward to seeing the next venture!

Hi Helen -

What an amazing post. I have to say, it takes a lot of guts to go out there and write the reasons that you failed. Huge kudos to you for passing your lessons along.

We met a long long time ago, at an Astia event and then your launch party in London.
Would love to meet up when you're next in London.
